We're pleased to announce our June Whiskey of the Month is Buffalo Trace bourbon. A personal favorite of owners Mark Armantrout and Paul Fehribach, Buffalo Trace is the flagship bourbon of Buffalo Trace Distillery, a family-owned company based in Frankfurt, Kentucky not far from Chef/owner Paul Fehribach's old home in deep Southern Indiana. Buffalo Trace has won many awards, including a rating of 93.5 from the Whiskey Bible, and most recently a rare "double gold" at the 2012 San Franciso World Spirits Competition. Â Buffalo Trace is a big and uncompromising bourbon, with a rich and spicy nose including caramel and molasses in addition to the classic sweet and peppery spices of the rye, and a thick, syrupy texture that's cut beautifully by a gentle burn and balanced by cascades of vanilla and char, ending on a dry note. The finish is dominated by wood, rye, and exotic spice notes that are worth pondering again and again, making this a whiskey that's not only approachable for day to day drinking, but also one that rewards it.
